JMI Overview

Established in 1920, Jamia Millia Islamia was founded as a nationalist and reformist institution to provide modern education to all communities, with a special focus on Muslims. In the NIRF 2022 rankings released by the Ministry of Education, JMI was placed 3rd among all universities in India, affirming its status as a leading public institution.

The JMI campus spans approximately 239 acres in Delhi and includes academic buildings, hostels, green spaces, and sports and cultural facilities. The university is partly residential and attracts students from across India and more than thirty foreign countries, offering a safe, diverse, and secular environment.

Around one-third of the student population are women, and nearly sixty percent of students come from outside the Delhi-NCR region, reflecting JMI’s strong all-India character.
